Placenta

The placenta anchors the embryo in the uterus. It also allows: 1. Nutrients and oxygen to move from the mother to the embryo. 2. Waste materials and carbon dioxide to move from the embryo to the mother. 3. There is no physical connection between the circulatory systems of the embryo and its mother, so their blood doesn’t mix. These materials pass from one to the other by diffusion.

Umbilical cord

It joins fetus to placenta and contains 2 arteries of blood from fetus to placenta and 1 vein which returns blood to the fetus.

Uterus

Transfers egg to uterus and the site of fertilisation.

Amniotic Sac

Membrane from embryo cells: encloses fetus, prevents entry of bacteria.

Amniotic fluid

It supports, protects fetus from mechanical damage; absorbs urine released by fetus.

Scrotum

The sac that holds the testes outside the body.
